Although Fuscia Designs is all about the flowers for your special day, we can’t deny, we love all things wedding. And special touches, well those come in many shapes and sizes and even species! Yes, that’s right, we love when our dogs are incorporated into the festivities.

Like flowers, there are many ways to incorporate your best friend into your best day. However, like all aspects of your wedding, it is not without proper planning and some effort that your pooch walking down the aisle will go off without a hitch.

So here are some training tips from KatyK9 that we wanted to share with you if you’re thinking of having your pup be part of your nuptials.

  • Enlist the help of a trainer if you want to get it right

  • Your dog should be able to hold sit and stay with a release command

  • Your dog should have proper recall

  • To carry anything down the aisle, they need to know “take it” and “drop it” commands

  • Exercise your dog physically and mentally ahead of time

  • Take your dog down the “aisle” several times before the big day

  • Enlist the help of your family to cause “distractions” so your pup learns to listen to the one leading him

  • Make sure whoever will be handling the dog, practices with you

  • Be sure she has done her business prior to

  • Bring lots of treats

  • Employ a dog handler to take care of your dog while it’s not performing wedding duties, that way she can whisk your pooch away so you can enjoy the rest of your special day
